Hotel memories worth keeping

At age 6, Nick Cominos went to work in the kitchen of what became, perhaps, the finest hotel in Salinas history.
"My dad said, 'You're going to peel potatoes. You're going to learn,' " Nick Cominos said.
Nick, now 91, is the son of George N. Cominos of the Hotel Cominos. The family, of Greek ancestry, owned the structure, which sat on the west side of the 200 block of Main Street and, in ways remembered by many, dominated the terrain. …
